When Djordje is not touring around the world, he spends most of his down time in Los Angeles. If you live in LA or if you’re interested in having a lesson while Djordje’s on the road, please check his schedule and send him an email to the email address above.
Djordje combines his knowledge of the various styles he plays to make an individual approach for each student. If there’s any particular style you’re interested in, the lessons will be more focused on it. He teaches technique as well as music. In general, lessons are structured for bassists of all levels from beginner to advanced and all styles of traditional and contemporary music including jazz, classical, rockabilly, bluegrass, Balkan, Middle Eastern, etc. Many students come to him to learn slap bass technique, but he has a lot of experience in teaching arco and pizz as well.
For teaching technique he recommends books which he has found give the best results. Some of those are:
- Montag Lajos “Nagybogoiskola”
- Ludwig Streicher “Mein Musizieren auf dem Kontrabass”
- Josef Hrabe “86 Etuden fur Kontrabass”
- Franz Simandl “Gradus ad Parnassum”
- E. Madeski “Kontrabass – Studien”
- Kayser “36 Studies”
Djordje also developed his own method for bassists interested in learning slap bass.
Besides all that, lessons may include:
- Classical & Jazz Music Theory
- Sight Reading
- Ear Training
- Bass Line Construction
- Soloing
- Jazz Improvisation
- Good time feel
- Orchestral excerpts
- Balkan odd time rhythm
- Middle Eastern Maqams
